This rules. Damn I hate rattles/squeaks. Have one right now I think in my left rear door (that direction at least). Sounds like styrofoam squeaking. Ugh!
Probably the metal door handle release in the door. The tend to rattle if the foam where’s out(because old) or falls off(because rallyrallyrally). I used some of the thick 3m double sided tape and wrapped it around a couple of times. Sometimes i miss my squeaky GD.
I spent 3 hours cleaning my engine bay using a toothbrush (for scrubbing), water mixed with a tiny bit of dish soap and shop towels. My plastics are looking great, but all the ugly metals and rusty coloring near the timing belt makes it look like nothing was done lmao
I had a similar sound in my bugeye from the same area, in my case turned out to be the driver's seat belt squeaking where it runs through the height adjuster. Scuffed up the plastic a little and it went away.
I also switched out to the winter set Monday night. The summer tread was getting louder and stiffer with the cold temps. Winter tread feels like riding a cloud
I went ahead and put my new "winter" wheels on today. Got to say, loving the look! 15" Method Race Wheels MR-502 V-Spec wheels wrapped in 225/70/15 General Grabbers AT2s.
Got my six speed badge and reverse lockout installed from Output Motorsports in Australia. The badge is a recreation of the factory 5 speed badge that came on the first gen legacys.
Since the Legacy is about to go into hibernation I gave my winter wagon a makeover. I’m very excited to be able to see at night while driving.
Woke up to a flat tire... So I threw on the spare, drove across the metro and back and put my winter setup on. Anyone have experience with the Tire Rack Road Hazard Protection claims? I purchased the Hanhook Ventus V12 Ev02s back in May 2017, so they fall in the two-year coverage window.
150, 120, 150, 150 Guessing cylinder 2 is a stuck valve, dropped valve guide, cracked seat, etc... Also guessing the were never lashed. Also also guessing it has the original clutch. Sure doesn't look like the bell housing had ever been cracked and the clutch fork pin and access cover both looked untouched. In any case I'll know more Wednesday when I pull the motor and start undressing it.
Changed oil and swapped winter's on the WRX and the wife's Civic (98) on Saturday. Also changed oil in the truck (92 GMC). I continue to enjoy how simple it is to work on a Subaru. Oil pan drains to the passenger side which is conveniently where the filter is located. What's that? Oh yeah, the filter is mounted vertically and not directly above anything stupid, and the oil drains right into the same pan! Oh sh!t, that's brilliant! The GMC filter is horizontal and drains directly onto the front u-joint of the 4wd driveshaft. Guess I never need to worry about it rusting. The civic filter is also horizontal, and it dumps on what feels like part of the block casting, which then proceeds to run right onto the exhaust. Perfect! Sidenote, the Subaru's are the only vehicles that we have with vertically mounted filters. I know it's not necessary (because on most vehicles it's not possible) but does anybody else fill the filter with oil first before putting the new one on?
yes. Isn't that standard practice when applicable? Along with lubing the gasket? If nothing else it makes taking an accurate measurement easier.
It is for me, I guess. Guy I used to work with taught me that as a way to prevent oil starvation right at the first start up. I'm assuming it's not that critical considering they're putting filters upside down now, like Josh's.
More routine maintenance Really don't understand how some of you people burn through clutches. This one looks original to the car
I got 138,000 miles out of my clutch from the blue bugeye. The only reason that i pulled it then was because Mike rebuilt the trans. Lol. Clutch was still good doe.
Had a local deer help me out with some cosmetic MODS. I think I'll have to take it to a professional to help me fix his mistakes... What does the urinal think?
Both the headlights went out at the same time 2 days ago, so had to leave it at work the other night...picked up new bulbs and fuses (changed out 3...30A for the low beams, and 2 15A for the R and L side lights) for good measure. Fuses looked blown. Popped back on, was just weird that both went out at the same time...scouring the interwebs said that it's not likely but can happen, so thought I'd give it a shot. Glad I didn't have to take it in to have them figure out an electrical problem!
Fuses that large don't just blow out for no reason. So I would think that you will be experiencing it again soon if they were actually blown.
Insurance? On the cheap cheap i'd just replace the fender then pop most of the door out. Should be able to get everything but the wrinkles out with the door card and handle off.
I have $1k deductible... I think I'm going to do exactly this. I need to replace the right side fender as well, so just get two new fenders, pull the handle, pop the door dent out and do some body filler. I was doing about 20mph when it hit. At least it didn't shatter the window.
Somehow missed the a-pillar and side mirror too! Congrats? Re: filler/sanding. Probably way easier to pull the door off and lay it on some sawhorses or a workbench after popping/smoothing the dents with the door still on the car. The 2 divots in the rear door look like they can probably be popped up with a glue bridge puller. Speaking of which I almost smoked 3 (the same?) deer driving through como park at like 7pm last night. That would have been... lovely.
It did hit the mirror, but didn't cause any damage, just folded it in. Deer are everywhere in the metro area it seems like. I guess that's why there's no limit on anterless in the 601 area.
Stopped by JM to grab heads. Continually impressed by the growth, parts availability, capacity, and general badassness of @jmyhre05 and crew. Inspected and started reassembling the motor. Found like 30 pre honeywell filters and a ton of prosport and defi gauges while digging through the garage for razorblades... Some seats, harnesses, sensors as well... Nothing I needed but apparently I'm a hoarder...
Sprayed the rear wheel wells with 3M rubberized coating, put on some coilovers covers, then mounted the winter wheels on the FXT.
Getting ready to do a wheel bearing this afternoon. Thankfully my dad's garage is heated, unlike mine. I really need to stop buying **** i have to fix in the winter.
Update: Wheel bearing is done!! They absolutely suck but now I have the tools, if anyone ever needs to borrow them. My dads 68 firebird
